Introduction to Pattern Drafting and Garment Making

This week, we submitted all of our master pattern that we made on mahjong paper to a box board which includes the bodice block, sleeve block, pants block and skirt block. After submitting the assignment, Mr. Riza taught us about Dart Manipulation. 

Dart manipulation is a technique in pattern drafting where you take the existing darts and move them around the block to create a new design. Darts are fold and sewn into the fabric, The shape of a garment depends on darts as it will help garments stay in shape.

There are 2 methods in doing the dart manipulation. 

1. Pivot
2. Slashing and Spreading

Exercise 2 - Produce 4 sample dart manipulation using Pivot or Slash & Spreading method 

Pivot Method

• Waist Dart

• Underarm Dart

• Armhole Dart

• Centre Front Neck Dart
